Our Commitment to Employee Safety and Reliable Service

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is committed to protecting the safety of its employees and ensuring reliable service for all customers. As part of this commitment, please read this important information about field operations and how customers can support a safe working environment.

Why LADWP Employees May Need Access to Your Property

LADWP Field Customer Service Representatives perform essential work that helps maintain dependable water and power services across Los Angeles. In many cases, this work requires accessing meters and utility equipment located on customer property.

A customer’s water and/or electric meter is the sole property of the LADWP and the Department retains the legal right of ingress and egress to access, inspect, maintain, or replace the meter as necessary.

Field employees may access customer properties to:

  • Verify service conditions
  • Read and maintain meters
  • Turn water or power service on or off, when required
  • Ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently

What We Ask of Our Customers

To support safe and efficient service, LADWP asks all customers to:

  • Provide safe and unobstructed access to meters and utility equipment
  • Treat LADWP employees with courtesy and respect
  • Avoid any actions or behavior that could compromise employee safety

LADWP places a high priority on employee safety, and threats or acts of violence toward personnel will be taken seriously.

Ongoing Commitment and Actionable Steps

LADWP recognizes the importance of promoting a safe work environment for field staff and is taking steps to reinforce customer awareness. This includes ongoing communication about employees’ authorized access to utility equipment and the need for respectful interactions during field visits.

The Department is developing additional customer outreach strategies, including enhanced messaging through billing and other communication channels, to improve understanding and support safe field operations.

While field work can involve inherent risks, LADWP remains committed to maintaining strong safety protocols, advancing effective solutions, and working closely with law enforcement partners when needed to ensure employee protection.
