Project Background
The Haskell-Sylmar Transmission Line 2 Project is an important part of LADWP’s $4.5 billion Power Infrastructure Plan to accelerate the pace of replacing aging infrastructure. This critical upgrade will provide increased transmission capacity between the Haskell Canyon and Sylmar Switching Stations. The project paves the way for additional renewable energy supplies to be transmitted from the Tehachapi Mountains and Mojave Desert to the Los Angeles basin, in alignment with mandates such as Senate Bill 100 and the 100% renewable energy by 2035 goal.
Project Description
The Haskell-Sylmar Transmission Line 2 Project will replace the existing 115kV double circuit transmission line with a new 230kV double circuit transmission line. The new 230 kV line will be strung with two 230-kV 3 phase circuits. One circuit will be energized upon project completion and the second will be energized in the future to accommodate renewable energy sources.
The project begins at the Haskell Switching Station, located north of Copper Hill Drive in the City of Santa Clarita. The transmission line alignment extends south through Santa Clarita for approximately 7 miles, crossing the Santa Clara River and the SR 14. The alignment then extends south through an undeveloped area in the San Gabriel Mountains and crosses the I-210.
Finally, the alignment heads west through Sylmar (within LADWP’s transmission line right-of-way property), crossing the I-5 and ending at the Sylmar Switching Station.
Construction Information
Construction crews will remove the existing 115kV Transmission line, including aged overhead conductors, hardware-insulator assemblies, overhead ground wire, and tower foundations. After removing the existing infrastructure, crews will install a new 230kV transmission line. This includes new foundations, structures, overhead conductors, hardware-insulator assemblies, overhead ground wire, and optical ground wire. This work will take place within LADWP’s transmission line right-of-way.

Some nighttime work may be required.
Traffic Information
Traffic will be affected for short periods of time when crews are stringing over streets and the I-5, I-210, I-14 freeways. Temporary tow-away/no parking signs will be posted as needed. Local driveway access will be provided.
