Introduction

The LA100 study (Los Angeles 100% Renewable Energy Study) indicates that over 2,000 MW of energy
storage may be required to meet de-carbonization goals. We are developing programs that encourage customers
to install and operate energy storage facilities with characteristics that are most beneficial for distribution
grid reliability.

Energy storage is just one type of distributed energy resources (DER) that the LA100 study showed is important
to increase. DER programs consist of small-scale energy resources connected to the local distribution grid including
battery energy storage, local solar and vehicle to grid integration (V2G).

Our first program of this nature is CES2G, or Commercial Energy Storage to Grid pilot program, the
nation’s first municipal utility vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and energy storage-to-grid program. We will continue
to develop customer-facing programs to help transform the City of Los Angeles into one of the leading energy
storage cities in the world.

Future of Clean Energy

CES2G creates the opportunity for property owners and fleet operators to reduce harmful air quality
emissions (from cars, buses, trucks and other vehicles), decarbonize the grid, and support the local energy needs
as we transition to a cleaner grid.

Decarbonizing the grid reduces the amount of carbon that is released into the atmosphere which is important to
lessen the warming of the planet. This program will reduce carbon emissions and help us reach our 100 percent
clean energy goals set as a result of the findings in the Los Angeles 100% Renewable Energy Study (LA100).
Led by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Renewable Laboratory (NREL), LA100 found that
expanding energy storage within and outside of Los Angeles is key to dramatically reducing reliance on fossil
fuel power plants and achieving 100 percent clean energy.

On top of this, CES2G will spur transportation electrification, and expand energy storage at times
that optimize power reliability for all Angelenos.
