A Brief History of Veterans Day
1918. World War I ended when an armistice took effect on November 11th.
1919. President Woodrow Wilson declared November 11th the first Armistice Day to celebrate the war’s end.
1938. Armistice Day officially became a national holiday.
1954. The holiday’s name was changed to Veterans Day to celebrate all American veterans.
