Window Air Conditioner Recycling

Through our REfrigerator Turn-In and REcycle (RETIRE) program, LADWP offers window air conditioner recycling for residential customers when they have their old, working refrigerator or freezer picked up and recycled by the Appliance Recycling Centers of America.

Customers may be eligible to receive a $25 prepaid rebate gift card for recycling their old window air conditioners. Through our Efficient Product Marketplace, customers can receive an additional $75 rebate when they purchase a new energy-efficient air-conditioning model, for a total combined rebate of $100. Income-qualified customers may receive a $225 rebate for the purchase of a new energy-efficient air-conditioning model through our Cool LA Marketplace, for a total combined rebate of $250.

Eligibility Requirements

• Applicant must be an LADWP residential customer with an active electric account
• Customer's old window AC unit must be in working condition
• Window-mounted air conditioning unit must be a plug-in type
• Customers must certify that they either own the air conditioner unit or have the owner’s permissions to recycle unit

Customers must have their window air conditioners picked up and recycled by the Appliance Recycling Centers of America when they also recycle their old, working refrigerator or freezer at the same time. • Rebate funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis
• A maximum of three air conditioning units can be recycled per household per year

*Based on a 10 SEER (1,200-Watt/12,000 BTU) window air conditioner with a coverage area of 150 sq. ft. run for 8 hours a day, 6 months out of the year.
