Watch out! Do you get calls demanding that you immediately pay your LADWP bill over the phone or your water and power will be shut off?

We have seen an increase in reports of individuals calling our customers and falsely claiming their services will be disconnected unless payment is made immediately. Don’t fall for the trick and become a victim.

LADWP does not call customers threatening to turn off water and power service over the phone. If you receive a call like this, hang up. Call LADWP directly at 1-800-DIAL-DWP (800-342-5397) to ask about your account.

Important Things to Know

Do not pay scammers: LADWP representatives will never call you demanding immediate bill payment in cash, through cash apps such as Zelle or Venmo, or a prepaid credit card.

Verify your bill: Check your printed bill or login to your online account to check your account status, balances, and payments.

Protect yourself: Never open your door to someone you do not recognize. Ask for a photo ID through a window. All LADWP employees and contractors carry company ID badges displaying their name, photograph, and identification number. If still in doubt, call LADWP at 1-800-DIAL-DWP to confirm the legitimacy of the person at the door.

Scammer tricks: Caller ID “spoofing” is where a scammer deliberately fakes the caller ID information on your phone to hide their identity. These calls do not come from LADWP but from scammers trying to steal your hard-earned money.

Protect account information: Do not provide your account information or your bill to anyone. An actual LADWP representative will have the account information they need when you call.

Be proactive: If a call or caller seems suspicious, hang up and call us directly at 1-800-DIAL-DWP (800-342-5397) to speak with a customer service representative. This single action can ensure you are communicating with LADWP. You may also submit a Report Online.
