Energy and Water Efficiency
A Way of Life
You can make the most substantial reduction in your personal water use in the bathroom, because most indoor water use occurs there.
Here are some suggestions:
• Replace your old toilet with a high efficiency toilet, which uses only 1.6 gallons instead of 3 to 5 gallons per flush.
• Check for leaks regularly, and repair leaky faucets, showers and toilet tanks. A toilet leaking at 1 gallon per minute wastes $200 in water per month.
• Use less water for baths and take shorter showers.
• Replace your old showerhead with a new, water-saving showerhead, and install a low-flow aerator on the faucet.
• Don't use the toilet to flush away objects that should be thrown in a trashcan.
• Don't leave the water running when you are shaving or brushing your teeth.
