Energy and Water Efficiency
A Way of Life
For cleaning your clothes:
• Consider replacing an old washer with a new energy- and water-saving unit. Please visit the LADWP Consumer Rebate Program and LADWP High-Efficiency Clothes Washer Rebate Program links shown on this web page to find out more.
• Wash full loads or adjust the water level to match smaller loads. Over-loading will give unsatisfactory results and require a second wash.
• Pre-treat stains on heavily soiled clothes, so that one wash cycle will be sufficient.
• Select the shortest wash time necessary to get clothes clean, and use the lowest appropriate water temperatures.
For drying your clothes:
• Dry full loads, but do not overload the dryer.
• Do not over dry, which wastes energy and sets wrinkles.
• Clean the lint filter before each load. If lint is allowed to collect, drying time and energy consumption increase.
• Vent the dryer to the outdoors to keep heat and moisture from being released inside the house.
• Line-dry items when weather permits.
