Investing in the future of the City of Los Angeles

As the nation’s largest municipal utility, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) believes in investing in the future success of Los Angeles. The LADWP Economic Development Group’s (EDG) mission is to attract, retain, and expand businesses in the City of Los Angeles. EDG is poised to promote the creation and expansion of small business enterprises and community economic development that form the backbone of the city’s economic engine. In the years since its inception, the EDG has boosted the Los Angeles economy through infrastructure loans, community redevelopment and beautification programs, business expansion and retention initiatives, and outreach programs.

EDG collaborates with agencies at the city, county, state, and federal levels, including the Mayor’s Office, the Los Angeles City Council offices, the Community Development Department, the Department of Public Works, the Housing Department, the Community Redevelopment Agency, and the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation. Additionally, the EDG is spearheading programs in the following areas: case management, Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan (LARRMP), Job Opportunity Training Program (JOTP), affordable housing, permanent supportive housing, and creation and development of green jobs along the Alameda Corridor.

These efforts will result in the creation of hundreds of new jobs, thousands of dollars in tax revenue, and an improved quality of life for Los Angeles residents. Perhaps most importantly, these economic development efforts underscore the reality that it is only by helping its constituents that the City of Los Angeles can strengthen its economic well being. With great enthusiasm, the EDG looks forward to continuing and broadening this reciprocal relationship in the years ahead.
