Project Background
The LADWP Scattergood Unit 3 Decommissioning Project is an 18-month dismantling of power plant facilities in compliance with South Coast Air Quality Management District regulations, which require the existing Unit 3 to be fully disabled.
Project Description
The project entails the dismantling and removal of the Scattergood Unit 3 generating unit, which consists of a turbine building, a steam turbine, a natural gas fired boiler, a steam turbine generator and miscellaneous associated equipment. The generating unit is located on the southwest corner of the Scattergood Generating Station property near West Grand Avenue and Vista Del Mar. The project truck route will be along Vista Del Mar and Imperial Highway and will use the Vista Del Mar entrance.
Project Details
- Daily testing is conducted to monitor emissions and maintain air quality standards to ensure public and environmental health and safety.
- While noise, vibration and dust can be expected as part of construction projects, LADWP will make every effort to reduce impacts to the neighboring community. The mitigation efforts include using water trucks, monitoring equipment and positioning lighting away from residences.
- Streets, bicycle paths and sidewalks will remain open for public use and safety personnel posted as needed.

Demolition Schedule
The demolition schedule began on October 2016, and will conclude by February 2018. Demolition activities will take place Monday - Friday. Some weekend work may be required.
