Project Background

The Silver Lake Reservoir Restoration Project fulfills LADWP’s commitment to restore the water in Silver Lake Reservoir to its historic 440-foot elevation, using local groundwater sources that will not impact the drinking water supply. Silver Lake Reservoir was drained to enable construction of a critical bypass pipeline project to meet water quality regulations and ensure a safe drinking water supply.

Project Description

When Silver Lake Reservoir was drained to build the bypass pipeline, water quality regulations required that LADWP disconnect it from the rest of the City’s drinking water system.  The Silver Lake Restoration Project involves the construction of a new pipeline that will transport groundwater from the Pollock Wells as a new water source to refill the reservoirs.

Pollock Well Rehabilitation: May 2016 – April 2017
As part of this project, upgrades will be made to the Pollock Wells including a new pump and motor. Construction will generally take place Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Pipeline Construction: January 2017 – April 2017
The Silver Lake Restoration Project involves installing approximately 3,100 feet of a new 12-inch pipeline from the Pollock Wells located at LADWP’s Ripple Street Yard to existing pipeline infrastructure at Silver Lake and Ivanhoe Reservoirs. The pipeline route will travel from the Ripple Street Yard on Worthen Avenue to Ripple St, continue west under Fletcher Drive to Glendale Boulevard, and then connect to the existing pipeline at the Ivanhoe Tunnel at the intersection of Glendale Boulevard and Fletcher  Drive (map on reverse). In addition, construction will take place inside LADWP property at the reservoir to modify the inlet and isolate the reservoirs from the drinking water systems. Construction will generally take place Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
