LADWP is continuing to expand large-scale renewable energy resources, energy storage, and needed transmission capacity to bring clean energy into Los Angeles. At the same time, we are building out local solar and batteries, electric vehicle charging, demand response, microgrids and other small-scale distributed energy resources. To ensure reliability during extreme heat conditions, or loss of power and transmission from outside the area, LADWP has taken the first steps to developing green hydrogen-ready capability at the Scattergood Generating Station in Playa del Rey.
LA100 Plan
L.A's energy future is guided by the LA100 Plan, previously known as the Power Strategic Long-Term Resource Plan (SLTRP). This 20-year long-term plan provides a roadmap and pathways for LADWP to meet its clean energy goals, Los Angeles’ future energy needs, and regulatory mandates, while maintaining reliable and affordable power for its customers. The LA100 Plan is updated every two years to evaluate a range of scenarios and constraints for LADWP’s power system as it works toward achieving 100% carbon-free energy by 2035.
Renewable Energy Expansion
LADWP and the City of Los Angeles have been at the forefront of California utilities in adopting aggressive clean energy goals.
LA100 Study
In 2021, LADWP concluded the LA100 Study, which was launched at the request of the Mayor and City Council, to identify the steps and investments necessary to achieve a 100% clean energy supply.
